What is UGC NET Paper 1?

UGC NET Paper 1 is the common General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude. It is designed to assess a candidate's teaching and research capabilities along with areas such as comprehension, reasoning, communication, data interpretation, ICT, environment and higher education.

The syllabus contains 10 units. The official syllabus covers both conceptual and application-oriented areas, so preparation should include understanding concepts as well as regular question practice.

For June 2027 preparation, students should follow the latest official notification and syllabus released by NTA/UGC when available.

UGC NET Paper 1 Exam Pattern

Paper 1 consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions. The latest official examination pattern provides 50 questions carrying 100 marks for Paper 1.

How to Prepare for UGC NET Paper 1

Paper 1 preparation becomes easier when the syllabus is divided into concepts, practice and revision. Instead of trying to complete all ten units together, follow a structured sequence.

1. Start With the Official Syllabus

Read all ten units first. Mark the topics that are completely new to you and the topics that you already understand.

2. Build Your Concepts

Complete one topic at a time. Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and other conceptual areas should be studied with proper understanding.
